The Foundation of Freshi
Films By Kids, For Kids™
In filmmaking there is no right or wrong, no barrier to communication and no fear of an audience. Through film, a young person can share the vision of their experience to the entire world. Through skills acquisition, mentorship and experience, FRESHi FilmWorx empowers these new voices to be heard and to share their stories with the world.
FiFW understands the needs of filmmaker’s 8-18 and has created a program that addresses these needs. In the Freshi program every participating young filmmaker has a camera in their hands from the very first day. They control the entire creative process from idea to final credits. FreshiFilmworx is about films “Made by Kids, For Kids.” In contrast, it is not about films made by adults that use kids as their crew and their actors or about filming an event. Freshi is about young filmmakers who have original thoughts, work with a team to produce a film derived from those thoughts, share the film with an audience and communicate their ideas.
Due to the collaborative and "hands on" nature of the filmmaking process, regardless of whether the students are creating the next "Oscar worthy" independent film or crafting an educational PSA, Freshi has developed several programs to provide quality training and experience to kids in a school day, after school/before school setting and/or camp.
At the foundation, Freshi has developed a program based on five core competencies with a hands-on approach to Media Literacy at the core of the program. |
